Larcenies from Autos
There have been valuables
stolen out of cars that are parked in residential driveways.
Residents are urged to lock their car and not leave wallets,
money, jewelry, computers and other valuables in their car overnight.
GPS units are also targeted by
thieves and should not be left in view when your vehicle is parked.
Scams
The Police Department has
become aware of many scams that are being perpetrated on Lynbrook
residents. These scams are occurring via your e-mail and via the U.S.
Mail. Some of these scams involve your receiving a notice that you
have won a cash prize in a lottery and must send the "tax money",
good faith money, or service fee in order to claim the cash prize.
In other cases you are asked to provide personal information such as you
social security number or bank account number in order to claim the
prize.
Do not become a victim. Legitimate
lotteries do not ask you to wire money or to send cash, check or money orders
to claim the prize money and do not ask for bank account numbers.
The only legitimate lotteries are the ones conducted by a State
government in the United States. Private corporations and other
organizations are not permitted by law to conduct a lottery. One thing
is for sure, once you send the money or provide your social
security number or bank account numbers you are a victim. The
prize money will never be sent to you and you may find that your bank
account has been emptied or that numerous credit card accounts have been
opened in your name and with your social security number.
You should report all such
activities to the United States Postal Inspectors.
